Strolling through the Geek Girls' Facebook page, I came across an exciting and interesting article: "Marvel Announces A-Force Secret Wars Tie-In".
I was very intrigued with this article, particularly the dimensions of the contract made for this A-Force to proceed. Not only does this have an all female cast but the criteria for this even being possible is to have a brand new character. Enter Singularity, a sentient pocket universe who chose to take a female form.
"The team will form in Arcadia, the "feminist paradise" region of Battleworld, to battle an old foe from Marvel's past. [...] Singularity fills the quota for a new character, and the rest represent the disparate corners of the Marvel Universe: She-Hulk is an Avenger, Dazzler an X-Man, Medusa an Inhuman, and Nico one of Marvel's many teen heroes".
When asked about the role of this new team, one of the team's writer, G. Willow Wilson, said, "We've purposefully assembled a team composed of very different characters — from disparate parts of the Marvel U, with very different power sets, identities and ideologies. They'll all have to come together to answer some big questions: What would you sacrifice to succeed? What is being a hero worth?”
This brings to mind the definition of hero vs heroine. Being from a "feminist paradise" mean little to me because Wonder Woman was supposedly a feminist icon and she did nothing but disappoint. Pitting this team against the same foes as The Avengers I wonder how the writers will have the a-Force react and how the story will progress.
It all begins in May.
